Kevin Owens “True WWE Champion”

Ok so I was wandering if with this new story of Kevin proclaiming himself as the “True WWE Champion” that does it deserve its own section in the history tab for this wiki? Similar to the “Real World Championship” section in the AEW world championships history section S7Nightmare (talk) 07:41, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No, because it was an entirely different scenario that ended in less than a month. Punk's "Real World Champion" claim was based on being the lineal champion (who was stripped after the "Brawl Out" incident), he defended his claimed title, and having the title served to give Collision a separate championship during the early days of that show when there was something of a soft brand split because of the backstage politics. Universal title still in existence?

After Mania 41, I think it’s safe to assume that the Universal title was quietly retired. The entire build was Cena going for 17, when he won, they projected a giant 17, not an 18. It’s clear to me that they consider this to be ONE title, not two, so we should edit both pages accordingly. DasallmächtigeJ (talk) 08:03, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Two titles held simultaneously is still one reign. Roman is considered a five time champion, and his last reign as one long reign even though he added the WWE Championship in the middle of it. So even if the Universal Title is de jure still active (de facto it's been gone for at least a year, from when they dropped the word "Universal" from how they announced Cody), Cena's win last night is the start of a single reign, not two. oknazevad (talk) 10:12, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
